On Saturday 15th February we marked the end of our 25th Anniversary Year with a Family Day. The event ‘For the Love of Kangaroos’, held at The Kings Centre, in Burgess Hill, was a celebration of all we achieved in 2019. It was attended by 200 of our members and supporters.
Just to recap, back in 2018 we began planning how we would celebrate our 25th Anniversary year. We wanted to create some special memories for all of our members.
We decided we would offer a range of special trips to create some wonderful memories throughout 2019 for our young people. And so we put together a programme of day trips, overnight trips and 2-night mini breaks away.
Every one of our members was given the chance to experience something new and create memories to be cherished for a lifetime. To make this completely inclusive, we offered every one of our children and adult members a FREE place on one of the trips.
But to do this we needed to raise an additional £100,000! Our CEO, Peter Ackland, was absolutely delighted to announce at the Love of Kangaroos event the total of additional funds raised for the extra trips, which was a magnificent £103,000!
This was a truly fantastic achievement for a small charity like ours, and we are hugely grateful to everyone who got involved and contributed, from businesses, community organisations and individual supporters to our Kangaroos’ families and friends.
We are so proud that we achieved everything we set out to do for our anniversary year and more. So, on Saturday 15th February we invited all of our members, families and supporters to join us at The Kings Centre for an afternoon of fun and socialising, and mostly to celebrate what a brilliant year 2019 was for all at Kangaroos. Thank you so much to all who helped us make this happen.
At the event, parents were able to socialise, chat and enjoy a cuppa, along with a piece of cake, from our cake stall – some of which were baked by our great team! A very big thank you to Putty Cakes, for the beautiful and delicious cup cakes and to Bolnore Village Co-op for the heart Jammie Dodgers and other cake donations.
We held a raffle with lots of super prizes, including afternoon tea for 2 at Buxted Park Hotel, Silver earrings donated by RTFJ, and paintballing tickets donated by DeltaForce. There are too many to name here, but thank you to everyone who donated a prize.
The afternoon kicked off with a stunning vocal performance by Elliot Goldie and Dervla Ramsay, parents of one of our members, who also performed a song of his own.
We were thrilled to also welcome back dancers from Lianne Carter’s Turning Pointe School of Dance, who gave another beautiful performance (they were also a hit at our charity ball held at the Buxted Park Hotel last November). Thank you girls, you were awesome!
Throughout the afternoon children and adults enjoyed entertainment by the wonderful and hugely popular Tom Foolery, the brilliant OmmaySing Me, and our circus entertainers, Poi Passion, who kept our young people thoroughly entertained with plate spinning, hula-hooping, juggling and more.
Children and adults also enjoyed working with clay and paints in our sensory art area run by Sueloo from TimeAside.
A fabulous time was had by all – thank you again to all who contributed throughout 2019 and to those who helped at this event. We couldn’t have done any of this without you.
