Well what a hugely challenging year 2020 has been! Thankfully, we’ve come a long way since having to close our clubs and activities back in March, which was devastating to us all.
We rallied in true Kangaroos spirit and quickly responded by setting up a virtual programme. And as soon as it was safe to do so, we introduced some meet-ups outdoors in small groups for our members (which they loved).
Now we have safely reopened some of our clubs at the Ashenground Community Centre, and recently organised a few outings for small groups. We are hopeful we can continue to offer these services and over the course of 2021 increase our offering to get back to as near to normal as possible.
Making a difference
This year has been especially hard to see some of our families struggle with the isolation brought about by the pandemic. But, we have been here to support our members as much as we can and we know from the feedback you have given us that it has made a significant difference. It is what we always strive to do.
Our thanks for your support
We are so grateful to everyone who has helped us, supported us, and driven us on with amazing spirit. We couldn’t do what we do without you! Businesses have been incredible, offering their support and raising funds for us when they have encountered extreme challenges of their own. A vast array of community organisations have come up with different fundraising initiatives which has been wonderful and we really appreciate. And many individuals have given their all in support of Kangaroos, when they too have faced huge uncertainty about their livelihoods.
We are extremely grateful for the continued support we have received from West Sussex County Council and the Trusts and Foundations we rely on to keep our services running, especially in the current climate which has seen so many charities like ours struggle to raise funds from events. Without the grants we receive we honestly don’t know how we would have survived.
And thank you to the Kangaroos trustees, staff and volunteers, without whom we wouldn’t have been able to keep going. You have all contributed enormously. And of course, thank you to our wonderful members and families – you inspire us every day with your feedback and smiles. Knowing that we are making a difference means so much to us all.
It has been a hugely testing year, but as our CEO, Peter Ackland, relayed in our most recent office Zoom meeting, our team has definitely become stronger as a result of the challenges we have faced. The collaborative effort and drive to work together has been truly brilliant to see and has set us in good stead for the coming year.
From all of the Kangaroos team, thank you for everything you do to support us and thank you for continuing to believe.
Have a peaceful Christmas. Let’s put 2020 behind us and look forward to coming together again in 2021.
Our very best wishes
The Kangaroos Team.
