We were over the moon to hear that local schoolgirl, Izzy Tomlinson of Warden Park Secondary Academy, came up with the idea of running a cake sale at her home to raise money for Kangaroos.
As part of an initiative at Warden Park Academy, each of the houses within the school were given the opportunity to select a charity and do some fundraising for them.
Each house within the school (5 in total) were given the option of 2 different charities. The children then voted for their favourite and we were delighted to have been selected by the children in Izzy’s House as their charity of choice.
Year 7 student Izzy got to work straight away and decided she would run a cake sale at her home.
Izzy created invitations on her iPad and sent them to neighbours in her street. Izzy’s mum and auntie then put their baking skills to the test and put on a fabulous spread of bakes for friends and neighbours to enjoy. Apparently, the Victoria sponge made by Izzy’s mum was a scrumptious favourite!
The event was a rip-roaring success, with neighbours enjoying the get-together and Izzy fundraising a magnificent £210.
It was amazing to learn that one of Izzy’s neighbours have a foster son who has been a Kangaroos member, so it made the fundraising even more special.
Thank you so much Izzy. You are truly inspiring. Your efforts will make a real difference to our young people with learning disabilities. You should be really proud of yourself. Well done!
