Keep calm, stay wise and be kind is the message being shared by UK charity, Action for Happiness during these unprecedented set of circumstances. The movement, set up in 2011, aims to help people take action to make a kinder and happier world. Kindness and happiness are values we hold dear at Kangaroos so we want to share their message.
In times of crisis we must look for the good. We can and will respond to the COVID-19 pandemic with positivity. It’s what we do at Kangaroos. While we aren’t able to put on our usual clubs and activities, we are still working hard behind the scenes to think of new ways we can continue to bring colour and fun to the lives of our young people with learning disabilities.
The Coping Calendar
So, for the whole of this month we will be sharing daily tips on our Facebook page from the Coping Calendar created by Action for Happiness. It has 30 suggested actions to look after ourselves and each other as we face this global crisis together. Download it as an image for sharing or a PDF for printing. One thing we want to keep alive is our love for fun and happy times. We are sharing the Action for Happiness Coping Calendar to keep spirits up and focus on the positive things we can do.

Kindness is shining in abundance
In times of crisis, such as now, it is so humbling to see how people are responding. Kindness is shining in abundance and that is so wonderful to see.
I’m sure you have seen many acts of kindness in recent weeks. One such story we recently shared on our Facebook page was of a local girl, Izzy, who donated some of her hard earned money to Kangaroos she had made delivering eggs. What a wonderful community spirited gesture from a caring young person at this difficult time.

Collectively we can make a difference
We can’t escape the fact that the COVID-19 crisis is a difficult problem for the global community, but it is also a time when we must collectively be kinder to ourselves and to others. We must:
- Listen to the experts and follow their advice. It is essential that we observe the social distancing rules and follow hygiene advice to keep ourselves safe and well.
- Look after ourselves. This is vitally important for parents and carers. It is important you are fit and well to take care of your loved ones who need you. Read our previous blog post for tips on how to look after your mental health here.
- Make thoughtful choices and keep everyone safe. As much as we all desperately want to see family and friends, we must listen to what the experts are telling us and stay home. We can all help to reduce the impact of this virus by looking after our own health, washing our hands, self-isolating if needed and being kind and considerate to others.
