Kangaroos’ surprise activity packs raises holiday spirit

As we dust off and squirrel away the last of the Christmas decorations and get used to our bare interiors again, we’d like to share one lasting lovely memory from our Kangaroos Christmas.

We were obviously hugely disappointed that we were unable to run all of our usual Christmas events over the festive season for our members this year, but we were determined to share some seasonal cheer.

Celebrating individuality

Our operation team elves came up with the wonderful idea of delivering personalised activity packs to our members. Over 100 packs were thoughtfully put together with the likes and capabilities of each member in mind.

It made complete sense to us to cater for individual needs – it is after all a part of Kangaroos’ DNA! Giving a generic activity pack to all of our members just wouldn’t work – the needs and capabilities of our members are vastly different and we wanted to ensure that everyone could enjoy the crafts and activities that we included. We also made some sensory packs for our members with complex needs.

Families were  touched at the thought and care that had gone into them and the smiles on the children’s faces when a tinsel-clad Kangaroo and her helper arrived at their doors, with a bag of goodies, was worth all the time and effort.

Feedback from our families

Here’s what some of our member’s parents and carers had to say:

‘Thank you so much for the pack. Kimberley is thrilled with it. Thank you too for all the zooms and everything Kangaroos has done for us. You really have made a difference.’

‘Such a lovely thoughtful gift from the lovely Kangaroos! Thank you very much! Ethan is so happy! He absolutely loves his Christmas activity pack! Wishing all Kangaroo staff a lovely Christmas and Happy New year!!’

‘Thank you, Lorna! You know him sooo well! All the activities in this pack are so carefully chosen to match his interests! So thoughtful! Thank you so much! Merry Christmas!!!’

‘Thank you so much for the wonderful activity pack that arrived today. William and his sisters were so pleased with it. Such a lovely idea. Clearly a lot of thought and time has gone into putting these together.’

‘Thank you very very much for the fantastic activity pack! It was choc a bloc full of so many fun things and nice treats. Thank you, it’s extremely generous.’

‘Both kids had loads of fun with the clay from their Christmas kit today.’

‘Thank you so much – it’s perfect for Lexi – everything she likes. Big thanks to Lorna Herrett and Emily Day for arranging these.’

‘Thank you so much for Ben’s pack. What a lovely surprise on a rainy Sunday – not every day you get a kangaroo knocking on your door! Thanks again Lorna, Emily and kangaroo.

‘Thank you so much for Alana’s activity bag, full of brilliant goodies, she will use and enjoy.’

‘Thank you so much for Amy’s activity bag. What a lovely surprise to come home to. That will keep her busy over the holidays.’

And a message from one of our adult members:

‘Thank you so much for my activity pack. It will keep my bissy and that means I’m not on my phone for 18 hours a day and that’s a good thing! thank you once again.’

Thank you team Kangaroos
