Kangaroos spirits buoyed by £1,000 donation from David Wilson Homes

We would like to express huge thanks to David Wilson Homes for generously donating £1,000 to Kangaroos.

Housebuilder David Wilson Homes, a consumer arm of Barratt Developments Plc, had agreed to sponsor this year’s annual Kangaroos golf event at Mid Sussex Golf club. While this event was postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic, David Wilson Homes still wanted to honour its commitment to the charity.

Community Fund Programme

The David Wilson Southern Counties’ regional Community Fund programme is a scheme which focuses on supporting the division’s local area by donating £1000 per month to a local charity or organisation that is going above and beyond to improve the quality of life for those in the community.

Lynnette St-Quintin, Sales & Marketing Director for David Wilson Southern Counties, comments: “The team at Kangaroos does a fantastic job at providing support to children and young adults with learning disabilities. It is important to us at David Wilson Southern Counties to support the local community and we hope our donation will really help contribute to the work Kangaroos does to help those most in need.”

Donations more important than ever

In such uncertain times, in which charities have suffered enormously from the cancellation of fundraising events, Kangaroos is extremely grateful to donors who continue to offer their support. The golf event has been postponed until Thurs 1st October and will go ahead if it is safe to do so. Despite this uncertainty, our headline sponsor, David Wilson Homes, who are responsible for the local Wychwood Park development on Rocky Lane in Haywards Heath, West Sussex, made the donation without reservation.

It is truly magnificent that businesses in our local community are continuing to offer much-needed support during this difficult time. Although we have temporarily closed our usual clubs and postponed activities and outings, we are still working very hard to support our Members with a virtual activity programme, Zoom clubs, virtual support groups, signposting to other services and much more.

We have been working hard for over 25 years to support the more vulnerable in the community. We currently help over 240 families.

With fundraising streams significantly down, the charity is working extra hard to find new sources of revenue so that it can continue to offer invaluable support to children and adults with learning disabilities.

Lockdown has been hard for our Members

Lockdown has been incredibly hard for many of our Members and their families. Our people with learning disabilities don’t understand why they can’t go to their usual clubs and activities, go to school, meet with their peers and see friends and extended family. Our parents and carers have also struggled without their usual network of support which provides significant respite.

This testimonial is echoed across our Membership:

“Kangaroos is a major support for us at the moment … their online programme of activities has become our lifeline”

Thank you for your support

We adapted quickly during lockdown to continue to support our Members and their families. We are still here and we still desperately need the support of businesses like David Wilson Homes. Thank you again for your valuable donation which will help us to continue in our quest to bring colour to the lives of people with learning disabilities, even through the uncertain times we are experiencing today.
