Our 25th Anniversary

2019 was a very special year for Kangaroos, as we celebrated our 25th anniversary. To mark this we ran our Memory of a Lifetime Campaign and supported all of our young people to participate in an activity that they will remember for the rest of their lives.

We are delighted that our anniversary year was generously sponsored by two local companies:

Our overnight trips

Some of our members chose to participate in one of our very special overnight trips. The trips included visits to DisneyLand in Paris, Alton Towers, Center Parcs and a night out in London staying at a hotel and seeing the Lion King.

“Nathan recently attended the London overnight trip to see the Lion King. The show obviously made an impression as Nathan acted out some of the songs when telling us about it, all the time beaming with the biggest smile. Thank you for giving Nathan this wonderful experience.” Parent, February 2019

Our day trips

Some of our members chose to go on a very special day out. These trips included the exclusive use of Blackberry Farm Park in Sussex, a trip to the London Eye and a river boat cruise on the Thames, a trip to the i360 in Brighton with a tour on an open top bus and, for our STARS group with complex medical needs, a trip in a speedboat around Portsmouth Harbour.

Kangafest

On Saturday 27th July 2019 we celebrated our 25th anniversary with a special event, Kangafest, an inclusive festival held at Woodland Meads School for our members, families, staff, volunteers (past and present) and all of our supporters. Over 350 people attended the event.

It was a fun packed day which included a main stage with entertainment, a pamper tent, a circus skills workshop, bouncy castle, music and sensory workshops, a photo booth, animal encounter, face painting, cricket skills and much more.

Our Kangachallenge included a fun Hopathon and Kangarace with heats on spacehoppers. A big thank you to all involved. It really was a special day to remember.

As well as sponsoring the event, Tisshaws also very generously donated and raffled a Steiff Kangaroo

We still need your help

Our aim for 2019 was to raise an additional £100,000 to support our Memory of a Lifetime campaign. We are delighted to have reached our target – we raised a magnificent £103,000.

We achieved so much in 2019, but we don’t want our vision of what we can achieve for our members to stop there. We are determined to continue to bring exciting opportunities to our members. To do this we still need your help.

Whether you are an individual, a community organisation or a business you can still help us – there are all sorts of ways you can do this.

Companies and local businesses can sponsor and/or attend any of our events.

Or perhaps you would like to take on an individual challenge and fundraise for us at the same time.

If you are interested in participating in, or running a fundraising activity for us, then please contact us and our fundraising team will get back to you as soon as possible.
