Once again we have been blown away by the support and fundraising efforts from our heroes and heroines in the local business community. This week we are celebrating the awesome achievement of Jane Todd who walked 100 miles along the South Downs Way to achieve a lifetime ambition and raise money for Kangaroos.
Drum roll …. Jane smashed her fundraising target of £2,000 raising over £4,000 (incl. Gift Aid). WOW! Jane is most definitely one of our super Kangaheroes! Jane – we can’t thank you enough. What a wonderful achievement! The money raised will help us to continue to bring colour to the lives of young people with learning disabilities in Mid Sussex.
Jane’s fundraising story
Having hit a major milestone birthday, Jane felt it was time to start ticking things off her bucket list. She grew up in Eastbourne, at the foot of the Downs, so an endurance trek along the South Downs Way had always been a challenge Jane wanted to take on.
She decided it would be a great idea to combine this ambition with raising money for a really worthwhile cause.
Jane trained hard and suffered a fair few blisters along the way, and took on the challenge despite having a knee injury, but she DID IT! We couldn’t be more proud of Jane and what she achieved and we are so grateful that she chose to support Kangaroos.
About Jane and Flint & Co
Jane Todd established Flint & Co Estate Agents in 2014 to serve Haywards Heath and the surrounding villages, determined to fulfil her ambition to open her own agency and dispel the myth that ‘all agents are the same’.
Having worked in the industry for 27 years in London, and with a grown up family, the timing was perfect. Jane brought a fresh approach to the local market and has become widely recognised for being honest, hardworking, ethical and caring, building a catalogue of five star Google reviews and testimonials.
Jane’s style of agency has proved to be a winning formula and was recognised in 2020 when Flint & Co picked up the Best Estate Agency Guide ‘Exceptional Category’ Award, putting them in the top 3% of Agencies nationwide.
As a company, Jane says “we like to support local businesses and regularly donate to a wide range of local charities and good causes, including a selection of local schools, Kangaroos and St Peter and James Hospice.”
How Jane came to support Kangaroos
Since she set up Flint & Co in 2014, Jane had her heart set on being an ethical business that worked cohesively with the local community. It wasn’t long before she discovered the great work that Kangaroos delivered for young people with learning disabilities locally. So she reached out to see if there was any way they could help.
Since then, Flint & Co has donated raffle prizes (see the wonderful luxury hamper above they generously donated to our recent Mid Summer Prize Draw).
And Steve Carroll, one of the fabulous team at Flint & Co, volunteered his time to read at one of Kangaroos’ virtual reading sessions to our members, which he said he thoroughly enjoyed. Our members loved the story too!
About Kangaroos – where the money goes!
Established in 1994, Kangaroos is a registered Sussex-based charity providing a range of fun clubs and trips out for children and adults with learning disabilities, including those with behavioural difficulties and complex needs. Kangaroos provides opportunities for over 200 members to engage in a wide range of activities they wouldn’t usually get the chance to do. Some of our more challenging activities have included wheelchair ice-skating, rock climbing and watersports, as well as overnight stays.
Kangaroos is a lifeline to families caring for young people with learning disabilities. Our annual expenditure is almost £500,000, and business support is vital to the work that we do.
Thank you Jane
We are so grateful to Jane and her amazing fundraising efforts, helping us to make a future where young people with learning disabilities can thrive. Without businesses like Flint & Co our life-changing work would not be possible.
